Ray Mears Leather Axe Loop

The Ray Mears Leather Axe Loop is a convenient way to carry your forest axe whilst keeping it to hand and your hands free; just slide the loop onto your belt.

This axe loop is designed around the Gransfors Bruks Small Forest Axe but will also accommodate the Ray Mears Wilderness, the Scandinavian Forest and the Hunters Axe from Gransfors Bruks. The discreet Ray Mears snow shoe logo is embossed into the front of the axe loop, which is available for either left or right hand carry.

Crafted in our heaviest weight leather, this loop is entirely handmade with burnished and creased edges and hand stitched in a hard-wearing braided and waxed polyester thread which won’t rot. Stitches are further protected from wear by being recessed into a shallow channel raced into the surface of the leather both on the inside and outside.

The flat-seam and angled design of this axe loop is a more tailored fit than the standard circular loops typically seen, allowing for a more balanced carrying position that keeps the haft tucked in behind you and away from your legs.

This axe loop is not suitable for use with deeply bearded or very shallow bearded axes such as carving and splitting axes respectively, although it may be compatible with some axes other than those listed above if of a similar shape and size. The approximate internal measurement of the axe loop is 16 cm at its narrowest point (this dimension may vary slightly due to the nature of the material). The belt loop will accommodate belts up to about 2 inches in width depending on the thickness.

Allow the leather to dry naturally if it gets wet and feed occasionally with a greasy leather food such as Norsol Leather Balm to maintain good condition and aid longevity.

All of our leather and canvas goods are hand-made in England by Woodlore’s resident leather worker Becky Brewster, a craftswoman with over three decades of experience. The leather used in this product is vegetable tanned with full, natural grain and hand-dyed in house to the unique Woodlore colour.
